One person was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon south of Decatur.

The wreck happened on Farm Road 51 near County Road 3294, just north of Farm Road 3259 about 2 p.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Ricky Hunter said a 2002 Buick passenger car was southbound on FM 51 when, for an unknown reason, the driver veered the vehicle into the northbound lane where it struck a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup.

The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles. The truck rolled over, landing upside down.

The driver of the car, 25-year-old Ross Steven Moore of Decatur, was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Callie Manning.

The driver of the pickup, Todd A. Smith, 41, of Paradise, was extricated by first responders and taken by ground ambulance to Medical City Denton.

The wreck shut down both lanes of traffic on FM 51 for nearly two-and-a-half hours for the accident investigation and removal of the vehicles and debris in the roadway.

Wise County EMS and Paradise Fire Department responded to the crash. Texas Department of Transportation personnel assisted with traffic control.

A memorial service for Moore will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.
