A Harlingen man was arrested following a traffic stop in Boyd for possession of a controlled substance and the unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Maxey

Keith Wayne Maxey faces four charges – possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater than 4 grams and less than 200 grams, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater than 1 gram less than 4 grams, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than a gram and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Maxey was released from Wise County Jail after posting bonds in the amount of $47,500.

Maxey was stopped in the 900 block of East Rock Island in Boyd at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday near the Boyd Animal Hospital. Boyd Police Chief Dwayne Taylor said Maxey could not produce valid insurance on the vehicle. During questioning, he was acting nervous and gave the Boyd officer consent for a search of his person. He denied consent to search his vehicle. The Boyd K-9, Nash, soon alerted on the vehicle.

Taylor said several syringes were found in the vehicle along with 81 cubic centimeters of a clear liquid believed to be methamphetamine and 7.3 grams of powder methamphetamine. Taylor said a Ruger SR9C semi-automatic handgun was also found in the vehicle.

The chief said similar drug arrests are becoming more common on Texas 114 in the city.

“We have a narcotic-related arrest five to six times per week,” Taylor said. “It’s almost one per day.”
