Rylee Horton’s smile earned her a medal Saturday morning and also a crown as Petite Miss Butterfield. But it was another prize that seemed to brighten her smile.
“She’s more excited about winning the rodeo ticket,” said her mother Lauren Horton.
Rylee was one of three young girls earning crowns during the Little Miss Butterfield Pageant at Historic Arcadia Theater during Bridgeport’s Butterfield Stage Days. It was the first time for the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the pageant, according to its chairperson Pam Lanfear. She said various pageants have been held in the town before.
“It’s fun. It varies with what’s going on the amount of participation we have,” Lanfear said. “My daughter did it when she was younger. It builds confidence and stage presence.”
Truly Moore, 5, captured the Little Miss Butterfield crown in her first pageant. She admitted she was a bit nervous on stage.
“We had to answer a question,” Truly said. “I had to wave.”
In the Baby Miss category for girls up to 23 months old, Delilah Smith captured the crown. Blakelyn Lewis was the runnerup. Lewis also won a medal for best personality.
Brinley Knox was named Tiny Miss Butterfield in the 2 to 3 age group.
The pageant was only part of a busy day at the annual spring festival that included a pet parade and contest and barbecue cook-off. The festival concludes tonight with the PRCA Ram Rodeo and concert by Bradley Banning.
