Join the fun at Rhome library

Rhome Public Library is ready to have a rockin’ good time this summer.

Registration opens June 5 for the Summer Reading Challenge, and time is set aside in the library for three different age groups to visit and participate in programs. The theme is “Libraries Rock,” and programs will center around music and geology.

Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 meet 11 a.m. to noon every Wednesday in June and July with the exception of July 4. Children ages 6 to 12 meet 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 12, 14, 26 and 28 and July 10, 12, 24 and 26. Teens ages 12 to 18 meet 4 to 5 p.m. June 12, 14, 26 and 28 and July 10, 12, 24 and 26. All children are invited to a group celebration July 28.

Special programs for children and teens include:

  • June 12 – STEAM presentation and exhibit by the Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society
  • June 14 – Music Time! Make your own instrument and enjoy playing and singing.
  • June 26 – Music artist Chelsea Harp will sing and play guitar.
  • June 28 – Rock painting
  • July 10 – STEAM: Music Technology. How recordings are made and the media used
  • July 12 – Movie Time, Enjoy the movie “Coco.”
  • July 24 – Guitar Fort Worth, Internationally known artists play and talk about the history of the guitar.
  • July 26 – Geology, Professor Lori Gouge from Weatherford College
  • July 28 – Celebration with hot dogs, prizes and completion awards.

Anyone living within the boundaries of Wise County or Northwest Independent School District may acquire a library card.

Two other special events include the TAME Trailblazer 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 8, and Tail Waggin’ Tutors 2 to 3:30 p.m. June 13 and July 11.

The Trailblazer is an interactive science museum on wheels, bringing hands-on exhibits to teach about energy, space, weather, biotechnology and aerodynamics, while also introducing them to educational and career opportunities in STEM. Tail Waggin Tutors are Honey and Ava, certified by Therapy Dogs International. Along with their handler, Katherine Prado, the dogs provide a stress-free, relaxing environment for children to practice reading. Each reader is allotted 15 minutes.
