‘Tis the season of holiday events.

Cities throughout Wise County start celebrating the Christmas season this week with a variety of events. Here’s a sampling of this week’s events.

NOV. 24

Bridgeport, Decatur

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY – Shoppers are encouraged to shop at local stores and help fuel the local economy.

NOV. 26


SANTA AND THE STAGECOACH – The annual holiday event at Bridgeport City Hall features the tree lighting, live entertainment, Santa Clause, kids crafts, food and holiday family fun. Call 940-683-3400.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING ON THE SQUARE – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce will host a Christmas Tree Lighting on the Decatur Square 6 to 8 p.m. It will feature carriage rides, free hot chocolate, Christmas music and a visit with Santa.

CHRISTMAS PARADE – The Lights on Halsell Christmas parade is at 6 p.m. in downtown Bridgeport. The theme is “Welcome to Who-ville.” If you want to participate, call Bridgeport Main Street at 940-683-3404.

MOONLIGHT MADNESS – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual event to kick off the Christmas season. It includes a lighted evening parade, holiday activities for kids and stores open late. Downtown Decatur.

CALENDAR REVEAL – The 2019 Wise County Art Association calendar will be revealed at 5 p.m. at the Decatur Visitors Center, 106 S. Trinity St. Purchase a calendar for $10 or 5 for $8 each to fund a scholarship for a graduating senior. Student-Teacher Art – Painting Partners Show will also be open in the same location at 6 to 10 p.m.


CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING IN THE PARK – Newark Volunteer Fire Department, Newark Ladies Auxiliary and the Newark Public Library will host the community’s first Lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Park 4 to 8 p.m. at the fire hall. The event hosts vendors for early Christmas shopping, food and cocoa. Choirs will sing carols in the Delora Doughty Royal Park across from the fire hall beginning at 5 p.m. and photos can be taken with Santa from 5 to 7 p.m. Children will receive a book bag and gift from Santa compliements of the Newark Public Library. The Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will be in the park at 6:30 p.m.


TREE LIGHTING – The annual community Christmas tree lighting event is hosted by the Rhome Veterans Group. Rhome Veterans Park


BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – The come-and-go event from 8 to 10 a.m. includes breakfast, crafts and a photo with Santa. Bridgeport Community Center

THE ANNUAL DECATUR WOMAN’S CLUB TOUR OF HOMES – The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any club member; at Patti’s Hair Parlor, 103 W.
