A Chico woman was arrested after attempting to run over a man during a domestic dispute in Crafton Wednesday.

Wise County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Craig Johnson said officers responded to a call in the 100 block of Cundiff-Crafton Road around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of people arguing, the sounds of gunfire and a man yelling, “I’m bleeding.”

Officers took one person into custody – 30-year-old Amber Shawn James of Chico. She did not provide officers with information about the incident, Johnson said.

Officers searched a wooded area near where the dispute took place for six hours on Wednesday and another four hours on Thursday but could not locate the male victim. The search included both a DPS helicopter and a tracking K-9.

Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said officers were preparing for another search of the area on Friday when they received word the victim had been found at his father’s house in Alvord, apparently after walking there from Crafton.

“His feet were a little bruised and bloody from walking barefooted, but he had no gunshot wounds,” Akin said.

The incident apparently started as a domestic dispute over property as the two were going through a break-up at a home they had shared on Cundiff-Crafton Road. When he fled the scene, the man dropped an armful of his property, including clothes and a back brace that were found at a tree line.

Akin said they are still trying to determine if the man was actually struck by the vehicle driven by James.

James was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remained in the Wise County Jail Friday with bond set at $50,000.
