Staar

#1: STAAR OF THE SHOW

As the school year draws to a close, it’s standardized testing season.

Various STAAR tests will be administered April 10-13. Check with your child’s campus for specific testing dates because they vary between grade levels.

Campuses generally do not allow visitors on these days. Administrators also suggest your child get a good night’s rest before a test day and they eat a healthy breakfast before school.

(Good luck, kiddos! You’ve got this.)

Glitzy

#2: HAPPY CAMPERS

Dozens of vintage camper trailers will be set up on the Decatur Square April 14 for a glamping extravaganza.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can tour the trailers, play bingo and shop the vendors and downtown retailers. Proceeds benefit local charities.

#3: ON YOUR MARK, GET SET

Go! To the Fit-N-Wise inaugural Run Fest and Jackie’s Run 5K April 14 at the McCarroll Middle School track in Decatur.

The Fit Y.O.U.T.H. 1-mile fun run starts at 8:30 a.m. and raises money for local schools. The 5K starts immediately after the fun run. It benefits the Jackie Murphree Memorial Scholarship fund, helping local students receive a college education.

The 16th annual Wise Hoops 3-on-3 basketball tournament, sponsored by Decatur Junior Woman’s Club, is April 13 at the McCarroll Middle School Multipurpose Building.

Check-in begins at 5 p.m., and games start at 5:30. Register your team by 6 p.m. April 12 at eventsdjwc.com. You can also call Meagan Hood, 940-389-0994. All proceeds benefit local charities.

(Rumor has it a certain Texas Tech player, fresh off the Elite 8, is coming home to play in the tourney with his buddies.)

Track

#5: GETTING ON TRACK

Several Wise County schools will have their district track meets this week with athletes battling for spots in the area meet.

Decatur and Bridgeport will compete in the 9-4A championships at Argyle. Field events and the 3,200 are Wednesday and the finals are on Thursday.

Alvord and Chico will battle in the District 11-2A meet Wednesday at Alvord.

Paradise and Boyd competed in the District 8-3A meet this week at Jacksboro. The Boyd boys took second and the Lady Jackets placed sixth. Both the Paradise boys and girls teams finished fourth.
