As the fitness programs manager at Fit-N-Wise, DeAnne Martin has developed friendships with many veterans taking part in classes and programs at the gym.

“I’ve met so many wonderful men and women,” Martin said. “They are the neatest people, truly the salt of the Earth type of people.”

Meeting these veterans, in addition to talking with her husband Craig about his grandfather, a World War II veteran, gave Martin an idea – a Fit-N-Wise veterans program.

“I meet these current-day heroes, and I thought, how can I honor them?” Martin said. “It’s all come together to do the celebration on [Nov. 12].”

Martin has coordinated a morning full of events Monday starting at 10:15 a.m. with a special Silver Sneakers class that will include patriotic music.

Following the class, Taylor Lambert will sing the national anthem. Veteran Dave Lynch will give a speech.

There will also be raffles and snacks provided by Modern Woodmen of America.

All participating veterans will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

“We’re thrilled to be able to honor these men and women,” Martin said.
