Fire marshal interviews begin

Interviews started this week for Wise County fire marshal/emergency management coordinator.

County Judge J.D. Clark said the candidate screening committee planned to interview four candidates, but one got sick. Three candidates were interviewed Wednesday with the fourth to be rescheduled.

“So far I’ve been really impressed with not only the candidates, but also the committee,” Clark said. “Everyone came up with questions from their skill set. Good questions were asked and good conversations had.”

The committee, appointed by the county commissioners, includes Clark, Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns, Sheriff Lane Akin and office holders from the Wise County Firefighters Association – President Chris Caster, Vice President Sam Hahn and Treasurer Nate Mara.

“It was a good process, and I was proud of the committee,” Clark said. “They’ve taken it very seriously, and they know how important that position is. We’ve had a rich array of questions.

Clark hopes to have a recommendation to commissioners no later than their meeting Jan. 29. The next regularly scheduled meeting is 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the third-floor conference room at the Wise County Courthouse.
