Wise County commissioners agreed Monday to cut the Weatherford College branch campus maintenance tax by the same percentage as the county property tax rate.

They proposed a 4.4-cent branch campus maintenance tax for fiscal year 2019. The current tax rate is 4.6148 cents per $100 property valuation.

County Judge J.D. Clark told commissioners the reduced rate covers the bond payment and leaves money available to go toward the maintenance and operation of the campus, per the agreement between the two entities.

Clark said he and Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns met with Weatherford College President Dr. Tod Farmer last week, and Farmer will attend the Aug. 27 commissioners meeting to go over the budget for WCWC.

There will be two public hearings on the proposed branch campus maintenance tax rate:

  • 7 p.m. Aug. 23, at Weatherford College Wise County
  • 8:30 a.m. Aug. 27, in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse.
