Taxpayers in Chico ISD will have a chance to comment on the proposed budget and tax rate for the 2018-2019 school year Thursday.

Chico ISD Superintendent Don Elsom said the school board has proposed the same tax rate as last year: $1.29 per $100 of taxable value. That includes $1.04 for maintenance and operations and 25 cents for debt service.

Because of a 7 percent increase in property tax values in the district, keeping the tax rate the same would mean the owner of a $110,748 home would pay $102.40 more in taxes.

The proposed budget includes a 3 percent from midpoint pay increase for teachers, and the district would increase its contribution to single employee health insurance by $142.

The school board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road.
