A man was seen on video stealing a woman’s car from Walmart during the daylight hours earlier this week.

Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said the theft happened Tuesday afternoon around 2:45. He said a woman finished her shopping and returned to her car which was parked out in front of the store in a handicapped parking space.

She put her bags away and then began looking at the phone she had just purchased. Although it was supposed to be activated, it was not, and after a few minutes the woman went back inside the store.

“Her keys were still in the door,” Hoskins said. “We have video of a guy getting into the car and driving away.”

He said the man might be homeless.

The vehicle, a white 2008 Dodge Caliber, was found abandoned in Granbury Friday morning, Hoskins said. Investigators do not have any suspects at this time.

Anyone with information about the theft should call the Decatur Police Department at 940-393-0300.
