Alvord school trustees recently approved a roof replacement project.

The board approved a contract with Wade Mathews Roofing to replace the metal roof of the agriculture department’s barn. Superintendent Randy Brown said the roof was damaged in a hailstorm, and the repair will be paid for through the school’s insurance provider.

The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year in August.

In other business, the board approved an E-rate network equipment project that will upgrade the district’s infrastructure, increasing speeds 10 times over current network speeds. The district will also replace slower and older wireless access points.

While the total cost of the project is $94,321.65, the E-rate funding will mean the district will only pay $39,912.66.

In personnel issues, the district announced high school teacher Mechelle Wright will serve as a part-time English teacher and part-time assistant principal at the high school next year. Brown said this will provide a campus administrator while Principal Aaron Tefertiller is fulfilling his head boys basketball coaching duties.
