Sept. 11 still hangs like a heavy cloud over America’s heart.

To commemorate the day and honor local first responders, the Wise County Veterans Group will have a Patriot Day program 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park, 405 N. Trinity St., in Decatur.

Speaker is Robb Hawkins. Jennifer Ward will provide music, and the Decatur Fire Department Honor Guard will also participate in the ceremony. Police, fire and medical personnel from across the county are invited, as well as the general public.



Ten months after meeting in the 3A Region I volleyball final, the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets and Brock Lady Eagles will share the court again Tuesday. The match is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. at Boyd High School.

Boyd swept Brock last year to reach the state tournament for the first time. Tuesday, the Lady Yellowjackets will be trying to get off to a strong start on securing their fourth straight district title.



Several Democratic candidates for state offices will be rolling into town Wednesday to answer your questions.

The Texas Democratic Women of Rural North Texas is having a Q&A forum 6:30 p.m. at the Decatur Conference Center with the following candidates: Lupe Valdez, governor; Mike Collier, lieutenant governor; Kim Olson, agriculture commissioner and Kathy Cheng, Texas Supreme Court.

Kevin Lopez of Bridgeport, who’s running for the Senate District 30 seat, will also be in attendance, as well as others.



Wise County superintendents will all be in one room Monday.

They are attending a forum at the Wise County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The event runs 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Decatur Conference Center.

You can also RSVP to and pay for the tickets at the door. But if you go that route, it costs $15 per ticket.
