Homecoming

#1 MUM’S THE WORD

Three Wise County schools are celebrating homecoming next week – Boyd, Decatur and Paradise.

Of course, the football games are Friday night. Paradise will take on Callisburg at 7:30 p.m., Decatur plays Graham at 7 p.m., and Boyd will face Howe for a 7:30 kickoff.

Each school is also having a homecoming parade Monday. Boyd and Decatur floats will roll through their respective towns at 6 p.m., while Paradise’s parade is 6:30 p.m.

Campuses across these districts are having special events throughout the week, so be sure to check your school’s website and social media for details.

Chambers

#2 CHAMBER POWERS ACTIVATE!

For the third year, the Bridgeport and Decatur Chamber of Commerces are teaming up to bring the community one super-duper joint luncheon. It’s 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Decatur Conference Center, and speaker is Suzie Humphreys, a motivational and inspirational humorist.

Humphreys is an award-winning speaker, and her background includes all kinds of work, from secretary to talk show host. Her adventures have taken her on a criss-cross journey of the country, and she finds humor in all situations – the good, the bad and the ugly.

Tickets are $15. RSVP at decaturtx.com or bridgeportchamber.org. If you have questions, call the Decatur Chamber at 940-627-3107 or the Bridgeport Chamber at 940-683-2076.

Jennys hope

#3 OPEN HOUSE, OPEN HEARTS

Jenny’s Hope – the first grief center in Wise County – opened this week at Wise County Christian Counseling, and you’re invited to an open house Tuesday evening.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., there will be tours of the building, which is in Prada Shops, 1650 S. FM 51, Suite 400, in Decatur.

Staff will be on hand to talk about and answer questions about Jenny’s Hope, and there will be a ribbon cutting for the new facility.

Extra parking with a shuttle service will be available at the Decatur Public Library.

Giving

#4 GIVE BIG

North Texas Giving Day – an annual 18-hour online giving extravaganza for non-profits – is Thursday, and United Way Wise County is participating this year.

To celebrate, they’re hosting a special event at Trinity Street Coffee Bar where you can meet people affiliated with local agencies served by United Way, and of course, have a great cup of coffee.

Giving Day is run by Communities Foundation of Texas. If participating non-profits reach certain donation goals, they’re eligible for bonuses … so give as much as you can!

Trivia

#5 ALWAYS GUESS ‘C’

Calling all smartypants!

Decatur Public Library has partnered with Trinity Street Coffee Bar for a trivia night. The fun will be had 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the coffee bar, 110 N. Trinity St., in Decatur.

Contestants can sip tasty concoctions made by the Trinity Street baristas and bartenders while playing for prizes and gift certificate.
