Election Day is Nov. 6, but avoid the crowds and vote early.

Early voting starts Monday and runs through Nov. 2. On those days, you can vote at one of four polling places: the Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; or the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.

Polls are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday, except on Tuesdays when there are extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can also vote early 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Wise County will be well-represented as runners take their mark Monday at regional cross country meets.

Thirteen local teams will gut it out, racing for a place at the state cross country meet Nov. 3.

Alvord boys and girls, Chico boys and Slidell boys and girls will run at the Jesse Owens Complex in Dallas, while the boys and girls teams for Boyd, Bridgeport, Decatur, Paradise and Northwest will race at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

#3 SAY “BOO!”

Scare up some Halloween treats at Boo Bash Sunday (Oct. 28).

The annual walkabout event on the Decatur Square is fun for the whole family. From 3 to 7 p.m., costumed kids can load up their jack-o-lanterns at the trunk or treat, play games and jump in the bounce houses. There’s also a dog costume contest, as well as a car decorating contest. Prizes for everyone!

The Art Beat, that is!

The Greater Wise Arts Alliance and Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce is celebrating all types of artists and their work Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Art Beat festival.

Mosey down Halsell Street to see street performers, artists’ live demos and sample local wine. There will be special activities for the kiddos, and downtown restaurants will be open for noshing.

Mighty Dragons, past and present, will celebrate homecoming next week.

School will be released at noon Friday, and the parade will follow at 1:30 p.m. The pep rally is at 3. Then everyone will gather at the middle school for a hamburger and hot dog supper at 5. A dessert auction at 6:15, benefiting the Chico Ex-Student Scholarship Fund, will close out the meal before kickoff with Olney at 7 p.m.
