All things Christmas are happening next week in Wise County, so strap on your Santa hat and get ready to jingle those bells.

Light It Up

#1 LIGHT IT UP

Two of the most festive holiday events in Wise County are the lighted parades in Bridgeport and Decatur.

The Lights on Halsell Christmas parade is Thursday in downtown Bridgeport. It starts at 6 p.m., and the theme is “Welcome to Who-ville.” If you want to participate, call Bridgeport Main Street at 940-683-3404.

After you celebrate on Halsell, park your float and drive it to Decatur on Saturday for the Parade of Lights. Festivities start at 4 p.m. with holiday music, pictures with Santa and snacks. The parade starts at 6 p.m., and shops will stay open late for Moonlight Madness, a holiday shopping event.

Christmas Tree

#2 O CHRISTMAS TREE

For the first time, Decatur Chamber of Commerce will kick off its holiday festivities with a tree-lighting ceremony. The fun will be had 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday on the square and will feature carriage rides, Christmas music, visits with Santa Claus, and of course, a lit tree.

The city of Bridgeport has hosted a fun tree-lighting event for a few years now. This year it’s Monday night 5:30 to 7 p.m. at City Hall. There will be live entertainment, pictures with Santa, crafts, cookie decorating and more. But be on the lookout, the Grinch could be sneaking around, looking to squash the holiday happiness.

Special Delivery

#3 SPECIAL DELIVERY

The 19th Annual Wise County Toy Run is Dec. 2. Hundreds of bikers will meet in Decatur, then ride in force to Bridgeport to deliver toys they’re donating to children in need.

It’s a sight to behold as motorcycles stretch for miles along U.S. 380 during the ride. Registration is 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot on West Thompson Street, behind the Decatur Public Library. The ride starts at 12:30 p.m., and they will travel with a police escort to Harwood Park Pavilion in Bridgeport.

A chili supper will be served, and there will be raffles and free door prizes for riders. Got questions? Call Jeff Honeycutt, 817-980-1981.

Tour of Homes

#4 SOUTHERN LIVING LIVE

If you love to flip through the pages of home and garden magazines, don’t miss the Decatur Woman’s Club Tour of Homes. The annual event, which showcases not only beautiful properties, but also dazzling Christmas decorations, is 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 2.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any club member; at Patti’s Hair Parlor, 103 W. Business 380; or at iOffice, 1650 FM 51, Suite 300. Proceeds benefit local organizations.

Advance tickets can be purchased at City Hall: $3 for adults and $2 for kids. Space is limited, so don’t dillydally. Any tickets available the day of the event will cost $4 at the door.
