Relay For Life of Wise County is having its annual Survivor Dinner 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church, 1200 Preskitt Road, in Decatur.

There will be bingo, door prizes and a silent auction.

The event is always a fun night, but guests need to register this weekend by calling Earlene Niblett, 940-393-9524; or contacting Michele Richards, 817-637-0929, wendy.richards.df6j@statefarm.com.

Relay for Life is April 27 at the McCarroll Middle School track.

Soccer

#2: SOCCER SUCCESS

The Decatur and Bridgeport soccer teams both won their bi-district playoff games Thursday night. The Eagles edged Mineral Wells 3-2 and the Bulls routed Brownwood 7-1. Decatur will play Pampa in the area round next week. Bridgeport will take on Clint.

Date, time and location of the games are still to be determined. Watch WCMessenger.com and the Messenger’s social media for details.

Casa

#3: KEEPING KIDS SAFE

CASA of Wise and Jack Counties is kicking off Child Abuse Prevention Month at 1 p.m. Monday on the steps of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur. County Judge J.D. Clark will read a proclamation and the first of 3,000 blue pinwheels will be placed on the courthouse lawn.

CASA hopes to pack the square with citizens ready to stand up and keep children safe. Those in attendance are asked to wear blue, the official color of the campaign. They’re also invited to bring homemade signs with messages showing a commitment to keep Wise County kids safe.

Vote

#4: REGISTER TO VOTE

To cast a ballot in the May city council and school board elections, you must be registered to vote. The last day to do so is Thursday, April 5.

To find out if you’re registered, go to the Texas Secretary of State website, wcmess.com/sos.

To register, call or visit the friendly folks at the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St., in Decatur, 940-626-4453.

Bloom

#5: IN BLOOM

Bluebonnets are popping up amid the new buds and beautiful spring color after this week’s rain. Assistant Publisher Kristen Tribe spotted a patch along U.S. 380 between Bridgeport and Decatur this week. Keep your eye out for these Lone Star lovelies; their season is short.
