Health fair

#1: HEALTH CHECK

Have you neglected your personal health?

Hit the reset button and get back on track next Saturday (March 24) at the Wise County Health Fair. The annual event runs 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Decatur Conference Center and offers a variety of health screenings and activities for kids, as well as a fitness celebration and self-defense education.

There will also be booths with fun giveaways and multiple door prizes throughout the morning. The event is free, so there’s no excuse not to check it out. Have questions? Call 940-627-3341.

Soccer

#2: SOCCER SHOWDOWN

Decatur and Bridgeport will battle for the District 3-4A title Tuesday at Bull Memorial Stadium.

The Eagles and Bulls have split the season series to this point with Decatur taking the last meeting, 2-1. Bridgeport is 6-1-1 in district while the Eagles are 7-1.

The Bulls are trying to repeat as district champions. Decatur is trying to claim its first district title in school history.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Dinner

#3: DINNER IS SERVED

If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be?

The mayor? Then you’re in luck.

The Wise County Chamber of Commerce is having Dinner with the Mayors 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Women’s Building on the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. The mayor from every city will attend and share their plans for the next year.

Buy tickets online at wisecountychamber.com for $25 or pay $30 at the door.

Spring

#4: SPRING IS IN THE AIR

The spring equinox – or the first official day of spring – is Tuesday.

On this date, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. After the spring equinox, the northern hemisphere tilts toward the sun, leading to longer, sunnier days.

Related trivia: according to folklore, you can stand a raw egg on end in the equinox. (We’re intrigued.) If you try this, report back, and we’ll share the results.

School

#5: BACK TO SCHOOL

Although it was easy to slip into a summertime routine, students will be snapped back to reality Monday morning as they return to school following spring break.

This weekend is a great opportunity to catch up on laundry, grocery shopping and general organization to finish the school year strong.

Fun fact: there are only 10 Mondays left in this school year.
