Wise County kids took home several awards at the Texas 4-H Round-up June 10-13, including two first-place finishes.

“We’re very proud of the results we had,” said Chrissy Karrer, the county 4-H coordinator. “We set very lofty goals.”

The Texas 4-H Round-up is an invitational and qualifying meet where students from across the state compete in more than 50 4-H events at Texas A&M University.

More than 50 Wise kids, from sixth-grade and up, participated, the largest group of any county. They took home eight top-three finishes, one photography best in show and thousands in scholarships.

Saydee Herndon received the $5,000 William B. Haley Memorial scholarship. Carson Read netted the $4,000 Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo scholarship. Sheridan Shallene was the recipient of the $7,500 McLean Estate scholarship. Lauryn Luttrull received the $20,000 Houston Stock Show and Rodeo scholarship.

“Every year for the past five years we’ve grown,” Karrer said. “We have more volunteers, more younger kids getting involved, and more awareness of Wise County 4-H.”
