Four people were arrested on drug charges at a home near downtown Chico Tuesday morning.

Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said officers executed a search warrant in the 200 block of West Decatur Street, one block west of the Chico Square, around 6 a.m. and seized 8 grams of methamphetamine.

Robert Marshall, 32, and Samantha Torres, 28, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 less than one gram in a drug free zone.

Jason Barb, 38, and Heather Montoya, 28, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 4-200 grams in a drug free zone.

The drug free zone in the charges refers to a nearby park.

Officers also seized scales and packaging, items commonly used as methamphetamine trafficking tools, Akin said.

The sheriff said much of the crime in Wise County is tied to methamphetamine.

“We recognize that a high percentage of those in the Wise County Jail are there, either directly or indirectly related, due to methamphetamine use. Many of the burglaries, thefts, assaults and family violence events can be attributed to methamphetamine,” he said.
