A Denton woman and her daughter were airlifted by medical helicopters to Fort Worth hospitals from a head-on accident on U.S. 380 at Bay Landing Sunday evening. Stephanie Mayfield, 38, was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital by Lifeteam Air Evac. Mollie Mayfield, 12, was flown by PHI to Cook Children’s Hospital. Both suffered serious injuries.

The Mayfields were eastbound on U.S. 380 in a 2015 Toyota Camry when their vehicle was struck head on by a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Will Reeves, 18, of Runaway Bay.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Chesley Womack said the driver of the Ram truck was following too close to another vehicle and didn’t see traffic slowed in front of him to turn.

“The vehicle in front of him swerved to the right to avoid a collision and [the Ram] took faulty evasive action to the left into oncoming traffic,” Womack said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Reeves was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
