SITUATIONAL AWARENESS – Concerned Women for America Prayer/Action Chapter of Wise County will host Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin for a speech on Situational Awareness and Human Trafficking 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bridgeport High School during the Concerned Women for America Prayer/Action Chapter of Wise County meeting.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

CHAMBER AUCTION – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s 27th annual auction is 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Conference Center. This year’s theme is Puttin’ on the Ritz with guests encouraged to dress in 1920s attire.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT – The Hills Nursing and Rehab will hold a trunk-or-treat event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25.

CHAMBER LUNCHEON – This month’s Decatur Chamber of Commerce luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Conference Center.

ASK AN ATTORNEY SESSION – The Stroke Support Group at Wise Health System will hold a free “Ask an Attorney” session at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Health System West Campus Boardroom, 2000 S. FM 51. Attorney Travis Weaver will provide information on how to qualify for Medicaid benefits.

DEMENTIA INFORMATION – Decatur Medical Lodge will hold its “Dementia Live” tour for families, caregivers and medical personnel to bring heightened awareness of the challenges faced by those living with dementia from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

FALL FESTIVAL – Decatur Medical Lodge will have its family fall festival 5-7 p.m. Oct. 25. Residents will pass out candy and there will be bounce houses, balloon animals, games, cotton candy and hot dogs.

YOUTH BASKETBALL – Decatur Youth Basketball is holding registration for players in grades three through six. Forms can be picked up at Decatur elementary and intermediate schools or email The deadline is Oct. 20.


CITY CLEANUP – Dumpsters will be located at city hall, 999 Illinois Lane, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Residents will need to bring driver’s license or utility bill.

VETERANS GROUP MEETING – Rhome Veterans will hold a business meeting at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Rhome Library. The meeting will be followed by lunch and backpack stuffing party.

SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Spirit of Christmas applications for Rhome and South Wise residents are available at Rhome City Hall, 501 S. Main. Applications are due Nov. 15. Spirit of Christmas provides toys and clothes for economically disadvantaged children.


HORSE CLUB – The Wise County 4-H Horse Club meets 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wise County Extension office, 206 S. State St., in Decatur.

FALL FESTIVAL – The Wise County Public Safety Fall Festival, hosted by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Admission is free, and there will be free food, music and games. Local police departments, fire departments, EMS, Air Evac, Department of Public Safety, game wardens and other public service organizations will participate.

BEE CLUB – The Wise Texas Bee Club meets at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Bridgeport Library.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS – Solaris Hospice needs volunteers. Those who choose to participate will undergo a background check, drug screening and TB testing. Training is provided. Contact Director of Volunteer Services Caitlyn Littlejohn, or 940-627-1011.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.

COFFEE NETWORK – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce’s next coffee networking event is 8-9 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Boyd Community Center.

GUN RAFFLE – Wise County Aggie Moms are selling raffle tickets for a 1911 22 Browning pistol to raise money for its local scholarship fund. Tickets are $1 or 25 for $20 and are available at Ronnie Uselton Farmers Insurance, 1006 W. Business U.S. 380 in Decatur. The drawing will be held Nov. 13.

BUSINESS EXPO – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and luncheon will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Decatur Conference Center. The cost is $20. Tickets are available online at Vendor booths are available, $75 for members and $100 for non-members.
