BRIDGEPORT

FUEL FOR A CURE – The Bridgeport Women’s Club put together Fuel for a Cure, a gift card program that helps current cancer patients in Wise County. Drop off gift cards for gas at The Cancer Center at Wise Health System. Call Laura Tanner, 940-626-2300, option 6.

DECATUR

KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts meet 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

SUMMER SAFETY FESTIVAL – The First United Methodist Church of Decatur will hold a Summer Safety and Fun Festival 4-6 p.m. May 19 in the church parking lot. The festival will include activities and information about ways to stay safe and have fun during summer vacation. The church will offer free hot dogs, water and bottles of sunblock. The event will also include a water bounce house and Kona Ice food truck. Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive.

PARADISE

CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING – The Paradise Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting 7 p.m. Monday at the Paradise United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

RHOME

LIBRARY EVENTS – Rhome Public Library has preschool story time 11 a.m. every Wednesday. Children participate in learning activities, including songs. STEAM meets 4:30-5:30 p.m. every second Tuesday to conduct various science and technology experiments. Call 817-636-2767.

RHOME VETERANS EVENTS – Rhome Veterans will hold several events in the month of May. Movie night, featuring “The Shape of Water” is 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Rhome Public Library. At 9 a.m. Saturday, the Rhome Veterans Auxiliary will meet and the veterans group will meet at 10 a.m. at the library. The group will place flags at Aurora Cemetery May 25, leaving from the Rhome Veterans Park at 6 p.m. The Memorial Day ceremony is 11 a.m. May 26. On May 29, the group will retrieve flags from the cemetery at 11 a.m.

WISE COUNTY

SCOTTISH FESTIVAL – The 32nd Annual Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games is Friday through Sunday at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. The event will feature a professional heavy athletics competition, drawing athletes from across the country, including world champions. There will also be Highland dancing, live music, traditional food, clan tents, a children’s area and a myriad of Scots and Celtic wares for sale. Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

CHAMBER GOLF TOURNEY – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual golf tournament is set for 8 a.m. May 19 at Decatur Golf Club. Call Kayla Jones at 940-399-3291 or email kaylasuniqueeye@gmail.com.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS – Solaris Hospice needs volunteers. Those who choose to participate will undergo a background check, drug screening and TB testing. Training is provided. Contact Director of Volunteer Services Caitlyn Littlejohn, clittlejohn@solarisfamily.com or 940-627-1011.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.

ABWN LUNCHEON – Area Business Women’s Network is having their regular monthly lunch at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Decatur Conference Center. Cost is $11 for members and first-time guests. Speaker is Wise Choices and sponsor is Kayla’s Unique Eye Photography. Bring business cards to network and a door prize.

FOSSIL GROUP MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Rock, and Mineral Society will meet at 7 p.m. May 17 at the Weatherford College Wise County campus. The program will be presented by Dr. Davey Edwards.

RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL GROUP – The Wise County Retired School Personnel will host a meeting May 17 at the Decatur Conference Center. Call 940-575-2341 by Sunday for lunch reservations. The program will include installation of new officers and bingo.
