FUEL FOR A CURE – The Bridgeport Women’s Club put together Fuel for a Cure, a gift card program that helps current cancer patients in Wise County. Drop off gift cards for gas at The Cancer Center at Wise Health System. Call Laura Tanner, 940-626-2300, option 6.

CALENDARS AVAILABLE – The Bridgeport Historical Society is selling calendars featuring photos of sunsets over Lake Bridgeport taken by four local residents. “Sunsets Over Lake Bridgeport” is available for purchase for $8. Call Don Majka, 940-389-3821.


KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts meet 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

TAX PREPARATION – Area residents with low incomes can get free help preparing and filing their taxes. Volunteers will be at the Decatur Public Library 3 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday afternoon now through April 16. Bring the following information: W-2, 1099 forms (1099-INT, DIV, A, B, MISC, R, SSA), unemployment, pensions, etc.; any forms indicating federal income tax that is already paid; and receipts or canceled checks if you itemize deductions. Bring a picture ID for yourself (and your spouse) and Social Security cards or other official documentation for you and your dependents. Also bring a copy of last year’s income tax return. GLITZY GIRLS TRAILER PARK – The annual Glitzy Girls Trailer Park is currently taking applications for vendors and sponsors. The event is April 14 on the Decatur Square. Proceeds benefit local charities. Call Carol, 940-206-4611 or Jana, 817-357-7205, or follow on Facebook.

FOOD TRUCK CHALLENGE – The second Eighter from Decatur Food Truck Challenge is May 5. Applications for retail vendors for the Eighter Food Truck Challenge are available and due back by April 20. Forms can be found at

DAZZLE ME PINK – The Dazzle Me Pink fashion show and luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. April 18 at the Decatur Conference Center. All the proceeds benefit the Women’s Services and the Mary’s Gift program. Reservations for a table of eight is $350 and individual seats are $45. For reservations, log on to or call 940-626-1384.


LIBRARY EVENTS – Rhome Public Library has preschool story time 11 a.m. every Wednesday. Children participate in learning activities, including songs. STEAM meets 4:30-5:30 p.m. every second Tuesday to conduct various science and technology experiments. Call 817-636-2767.

VETERANS EVENTS – The Rhome Veterans will hold several events at the Rhome Public Library in March: Veterans Bake Sale 1 to 5 p.m. March 23 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24. The Easter bunny will be at the library March 24.


GOLF SIGN-UPS – The Oil Belt Men’s Golf Association has opened its 2018 season. Men age 50 and older are invited to join the association, which is beginning its 27th year. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS – Weatherford College has opened its online scholarship application system for 2018-19 academic year scholarships provided by the WC Foundation. To start the application process, students should visit and use their existing “MyWC” login credentials to enter the system. Students must have completed the overall WC application to apply for scholarships. Deadline is March 24. The scholarships will begin in the fall 2018 semester and many awards will renew for spring 2019, pending fall grade point averages.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS – Solaris Hospice needs volunteers. Those who choose to participate will undergo a background check, drug screening and TB testing. Training is provided. Contact Director of Volunteer Services Caitlyn Littlejohn, or 940-627-1001.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.

BASEBALL SIGNUPS – Registration for the Made 2 Thrive spring season is underway. The $20 fee is due by April 1. The price increases to $50 after April 1. Forms are available at

DINNER WITH MAYORS – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce will host Dinner with the Mayors 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 22 at the Decatur Women’s Building, 3101 S. FM 51. Wise County mayors will be giving the latest information on their city and plans for the next year. Prepay is $25 and tickets are $30 at the door.

FARM EQUIPMENT AUCTION – The Chisholm Trail Antique Farm Equipment Club will hold its spring farm equipment consignment auction at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds.

COFFEE NETWORK – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce monthly coffee network will be 8 to 9 a.m. March 28 at the Rhome Community Center.


LENTON AND EASTER SERVICES – Trinity Lutheran Church will hold Lenton services at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 14 and 21. Maundy Thursday service is 7 p.m. March 29. Good Friday service is 7 p.m. March 30. The church is located at 1307 10th Street in Bridgeport.

HOLY WEEK SERVICES – Episcopal Church of the Resurrection’s Maundy Thursday service is 6 p.m. March 29. Good Friday service is 6 p.m. March 30. Easter service is 10 a.m. April 1. The church is located at 905 S. Church Street in Decatur.

MOTHER-SON DANCE – The Chico Methodist Women will hold the Cowboy Roundup Mother-Son Dance from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico. The event will include dancing, refreshments and games for ages infant to 12. The cost is $20. Call 940-644-5186.

TRAP SHOOT – Wise County Cowboy Church will hold a trap shoot at 9 a.m. Saturday at 2070 Old Denton Road in Decatur.

EGG HUNT – The Bay, Community Church of Runaway Bay, will hold an Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to noon March 31 at 513 Port O’Call Drive for children 18 months to 10 years old.

WOMEN’S EVENT – A free women’s event, “One Body, One Spirit Ministry,” will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bowie Community Center, 413 Pelham.
