ALVORD

YOUTH FOOTBALL – Registration for Alvord Youth Football will be held 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alvord Elementary practice field. The cost is $125. Call Tracy, 940-393-5316.

SUMMER READING – Alvord Public Library’s Summer Reading Program for Wednesday will be “All that Jazz.” “Jazz Fly” will be read and children will listen to jazz and create trumpets from recycled materials. All programs are held 10 to 11 a.m. at Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm St. No admission charge.

BRIDGEPORT

HANCOCK LETTER – The original transcript of John Hancock’s July 4, 1776, letter to the Maryland Convention ordering their military to march to Philadelphia to defend the common cause will be on display at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce/Heritage Muesuem 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 2 and 3.

DECATUR

GENEALOGY 101 – Join genealogy researcher Patti Gillespie 6 p.m. Mondays through July 9 at the Decatur Public Library to learn the basics of how to trace your family tree. The class is free, but registration is required and space is limited. KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts meet 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

RHOME

READING WITH DOGS – Tail Waggin’ Tutors will be at Rhome Public Library 2 to 3:30 p.m. July 11. Honey and Ava, certified by Therapy Dogs International, along with their handler, Katherine Prado, will provide a stress-free, relaxing environment for children to practice reading. Each reader is allotted 15 minutes. Call 817-636-2767. The library is at 265 West B.C. Rhome Avenue.

VETERANS EVENTS – Rhome Veterans will take a trip to the Vietnam Memorial in Mineral Wells Saturday. The tour will leave the Rhome Public Library at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will follow the tour.

WISE COUNTY

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS – Solaris Hospice needs volunteers. Those who choose to participate will undergo a background check, drug screening and TB testing. Training is provided. Contact Director of Volunteer Services Caitlyn Littlejohn, clittlejohn@solarisfamily.com or 940-627-1011.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.

FEEDING WISE KIDS – The Feeding Wise Kids summer feeding program will continue its Friday distribution through the summer at the following times and locations: (Boyd) First United Methodist Church 10:30-11 a.m.; (Bridgeport) Cates Street Baptist Church 10:30-11 a.m., First Baptist Church 10:30-11 a.m., First United Methodist Church 10:30-11 a.m., Presbyterian Church 10:30-11 a.m.; (Slidell) Slidell High School 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Other locations and times are as follows: Chico 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; Chisholm Trail Middle School and Seven Hills Elementary in Rhome on Thursdays.

STEM CAMP – Northwest ISD offers all students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity through fun, hands-on experiences at the STEM based TechnoCamp 2018. Among the many camps for kindergarten through eighth grade are drone, MakerSpace, robotics, Raspberry Pi and MakeyMakey. Information and registration can be found at technocamp.nisdtx.org.

COFFEE NETWORK – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce’s June coffee network will be 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. June 27 at the Decatur Visitors Center.

BACKYARD BASICS – Wise County area residents who are interested in learning how to process pickled products are invited to attend a Backyard Basics workshop hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Wise County 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday. There will be hands on fun where participants will learn how to make pickles and relishes. Cost for the workshop is $25 per person. To register, call 940-627-3341. Space is limited.
