BRIDGEPORT

FUEL FOR A CURE – The Bridgeport Women’s Club put together Fuel for a Cure, a gift card program that helps current cancer patients in Wise County. Drop off gift cards for gas at The Cancer Center at Wise Health System. Call Laura Tanner, 940-626-2300, option 6.

CALENDARS AVAILABLE – The Bridgeport Historical Society is selling calendars featuring photos of sunsets over Lake Bridgeport taken by four local residents. “Sunsets Over Lake Bridgeport” is available for purchase for $8. Call Don Majka, 940-389-3821.

DECATUR

PLAY BALL – The Decatur High School baseball team will introduce local youth baseball teams and hold a game for the Wise County Special Needs baseball team at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Following the game, the Decatur team will hold a home run contest. The Decatur alumni game is at noon Saturday.

KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts meet 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

TAX PREPARATION – Area residents with low incomes can get free help preparing and filing their taxes. Volunteers will be at the Decatur Public Library 3 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday afternoon now through April 16. Bring the following information: W-2, 1099 forms (1099-INT, DIV, A, B, MISC, R, SSA), unemployment, pensions, etc.; any forms indicating federal income tax that is already paid; and receipts or canceled checks if you itemize deductions. Bring a picture ID for yourself (and your spouse) and Social Security cards or other official documentation for you and your dependents. Also bring a copy of last year’s income tax return. PARADISE

DONKEY BALL – Paradise Band Boosters will host Donkey Ball 7 p.m. Friday at Paradise High School. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. There will be a pre-game barbecue sandwich meal at 5 p.m. Meal tickets cost $7. Email paradiseband940@gmail.com.

WISE COUNTY

YOUTH FAIR PARADE – The Wise County Youth Fair parade will be Feb. 24. Lineup starts at 9 a.m. at Eagle Stadium in Decatur. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Forms are due by Friday. Forms are online at wcyouthfair.org. Call 940-389-5388.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS – Weatherford College has opened its online scholarship application system for 2018-19 academic year scholarships provided by the WC Foundation. To start the application process, students should visit wc.edu/scholarships and use their existing “MyWC” login credentials to enter the system. Students must have completed the overall WC application to apply for scholarships. Deadline is March 24. The scholarships will begin in the fall 2018 semester, and many awards will renew for spring 2019, pending fall grade point averages.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.

DAUGHTERS OF AMERICAN REVOLUTION – The John B. Denton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Historical Museum. ASH WEDNESDAY – First United Methodist Church in Decatur is having drive thru imposition of ashes in the church parking lot from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 14), 104 S. Miller St. Traditional service will be in the sanctuary at 6 p.m.

ASH WEDNESDAY – Episcopal Church of the Ressurection is having drive thru imposition of ashes in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church, 104 S. Miller Street in Decatur 6:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Traditional service will be at 6 p.m. at the church, 905 Church St. in Decatur.
