BRIDGEPORT

PHOTOS FOR CALENDAR – The Bridgeport Historical Society is making a new calendar for 2019. The theme is wildflowers of Wise County. The group would like the public to contribute photos. Include name of the flower and location. Email them to eno11@embarkmail.com before Aug. 31.

CHICO

PRAYER WALK – The second Chico Prayer Walk is 7 p.m. Saturday at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road. The walk will begin at the elementary and travel to Chico ISD’s other two campuses for prayer.

DECATUR

BLOOD DRIVE – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting a blood drive 5 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at 202 E. Thompson in the meeting room. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, call Karina Holcombe at 817-751-9558.

KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts meet 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

DOMINOES ANYONE? – Anybody who plays 42 or would like to learn is invited to the Decatur Senior Citizen Center at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center is holding its annual school supply drive for children whose lives have been touched by family violence. The charity is requesting: composition notebooks, tissues, dry erase markers, manila paper, disinfectant wipes, lunch sacks, gallon and quart size storage bags, hand sanitizer, folders, paper plates and paper towels. Supplies and monetary donations may be dropped off at the Outreach Office, 608 N. Business U.S. 81/287 in Decatur. Call Janice Watkins, 940-626-4585.

LAKE BRIDGEPORT

FISHING TOURNEY – Devon Energy will hold its 9th Keepin’ It Reel bass fishing tournament and fundraiser Sept. 8 at Lake Bridgeport. Registration is 5 a.m. at Wise County Park. RHOME

VETERANS EVENTS – Rhome Veterans will visit Marker Cellars Winery Aug. 25. The tour will leave the Rhome Public Library at 11 a.m.

WISE COUNTY

HORSE CLUB – The Wise County 4-H Horse Club will have its first meeting of the year 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in Decatur.

JOINT CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Bridgeport and Decatur Chamber of Commerces will holed a joint luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Decatur Conference Center. Registration is $15. The keynote speaker is Suzie Humphreys.

GARDENING SEMINAR – Texas A&M Agrilife Extension specialist Dotty Woodson will speak during a fall gardening seminar Aug. 23 at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Woodson will cover proper soil preparation, garden design and layouts and disease and insect identification. Registration for each of the seminar times 2-4 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. is $15. MARKET DAYS BTS EVENT – Wise County Market Days will hold a back-to-school event 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Free haircuts will be offered by the Weatherford College Cosmetology Department. Vaccinations will be available from the state health department. Basic school supplies will be handed out. Free hot dogs and cookies will be given to children 12 and under. Local produce, meat and artisan items will be available for sale.

INDIGENT HEALTH CARE – Applications for the Wise County Indigent Health Care Program are available at 1101 West Rose Ave. in Decatur or by calling 940-627-4203. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements: residents, household, income and resources. They must also meet the standards set by the State Department of Health Care Services and complete required work registration with Texas Workforce Commission unless exempt.

BEE CLUB – The Wise Texas Bee Club meets at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Bridgeport Library.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS – Solaris Hospice needs volunteers. Those who choose to participate will undergo a background check, drug screening and TB testing. Training is provided. Contact Director of Volunteer Services Caitlyn Littlejohn, clittlejohn@solarisfamily.com or 940-627-1011.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS – The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to serve on the Local Disaster Action Team to respond to local disasters such as house fires and tornadoes. Call Melvin Castleberry, 940-210-4908.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Wise County Committee on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Wise County. A valid driver’s license is required, and a background check will be performed. Call 940-627-5329 or stop by 300 N. Trinity St., Suite A, in Decatur. Cooks are also needed at the kitchen in Chico.
