Katelyn Sons

EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT

Katelyn Sons

POSITION: Third-grade teacher

FAMILY: “I am married with one beautiful stepdaughter.”

EXPERIENCE: “This is my fifth year as an educator. I previously taught the second, fifth and sixth grades.”

HOBBIES: “My favorite place to be is outside. My family and I enjoy camping and spending time out in nature. We are also big animal lovers. We love taking our dogs with us when we go on any adventure.”

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE EDUCATION AS A PROFESSION?: “I was originally a nursing major in college. While I was in school, I was working at a daycare. When it was time to start my clinicals, I had to leave my job. My students surprised me with a going away party, and it was in that moment I realized I was pursuing the wrong career. The very next day, I changed my major to elementary education. What I like most about this profession is the joy I am able to see in a child’s face when an obstacle has just been overcome. Most importantly, I love the impact I can have on a child’s future, simply by being kind and offering a listening ear.”
