Valedictorian Tryston Webb will attend Texas A&M University in the fall, where he plans to major in accounting.

“It’s a reliable job, and business has always interested me,” he said. “Growing up I always said I wanted to go to A&M.”

Salutatorian Saylea Mayfield will play volleyball at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, where she wants to study physical therapy, an occupation she’s very familiar with.

“In volleyball I got hurt a lot,” she said. “I had to go to physical therapy a lot. You kind of figure out how it works, and I like it.”

But both students will miss their friends and their favorite teacher, Megayla O’Rear.

“She’s always positive and happy to see everybody,” Mayfield said.

Webb agreed. He had O’Rear not only in class, but also as a coach for multiple UIL events (computer applications, computer science and math).

“She does a whole lot at the school,” he said. “She’s the main person for UIL, and she also helps with one act play. She also teaches like three or four different math classes. It’s [inspiring], her being able to do all that.”

Both Mayfield and Webb knew they were at the top of their class for years, so they anticipate starting over in college presenting a new kind of challenge, one they look forward to.

“I’m excited about meeting new people,” Mayfield said.
