Callie Wilburn

Callie Wilburn

Position: Pre-AP and biology teacher

Family: “I have been married for 14 years to my amazing husband, Josh and we have one 8-year old son, Jarrett. We have 2 dogs, Daisy, a chocolate lab and Gunner, a Doberman, and a few chickens.

Experience: “This is my 11th year teaching and my first year at Northwest High School. I spent 6 years at Tidwell Middle School and four years at Gainesville Middle School teaching eighth-grade science. I attended Texas A&M University at Galveston and received my bachelor’s in marine biology and earned a Master’s of Education in science curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Hobbies/Activities: “Hiking the trails at Eagle Mountain Lake, trying new restaurants and new foods and watching my son’s baseball games and the Texas Rangers.”

Why did you choose education as a profession?: “I started my career in education at Sea World San Antonio. It was there, that my passion for science first overlapped with teaching as I worked with high school students to discover and appreciate the natural world. I began to see and believe that all children are curious and seek to understand things. To this day, I use that innate sense of “why,” to drive my instruction. Teaching science allows me to encourage, develop, and articulate their sense of wonder.”
