Ellis finishes basic training

Cody Ellis, a Class of 2018 Decatur High School graduate, graduated from U.S. Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Aug. 23.

Ellis was in the 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment. While in Basic Combat Training he was awarded the expert marksmanship medal. After basic training, Ellis remained in Fort Jackson for advanced individual training where he will study his military occupational specialty as a finance specialist.

Ellis was in the top of his class for physical training and is pursuing airborne, air assault and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program.

Ellis is engaged to Alexis Buentello, a DHS Class of 2018 graduate. She is currently attending basic combat training in Fort Jackson.

Ellis is the son of Ray and Bonnie Ellis of Decatur. His grandfather is Roy Flood of Bridgeport. He is third generation of Ellises to serve in the Army. His late grandfather James “J.B.” Ellis of Gainesville served in World War II as a combat engineer. His father served in the U.S. Army as military police. His older brother, Chris, served in the Marine Corps as a motor transport mechanic and is a combat veteran.
