GRADUATION – The Alvord ISD School Board recently approved a policy change that will allow all current or former board members to present a diploma to a graduate who is a family member. Any former board members who want to present a diploma to a family member at graduation will need to contact Julie Dickerson at the high school as soon as possible.

ATHLETIC BANQUET – The annual Alvord High School Athletic Banquet is 6 p.m. May 15 at the Decatur Conference Center. Reserve your seat and meal at the high school office with Julie Dickerson throught May 11. Cost per plate is $17. Meals for athletes are provided.

POWDER PUFF – The Alvord varsity cheerleaders will hold their first powderpuff and flag football tournament at 5:30 p.m. May 17. There will be divisions for first through fifth, sixth through eighth, ninth through 12th and parents and alumni. No coed teams are permitted. The registration fee for teams of seven to 10 players is $25. Forms are available at any campus office in the district.


POWDER PUFF – The Boyd High School sophomore class will hold a powder puff game 5:30 p.m. Friday at Yellowjacket Stadium. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for students.

PUBLIC ACCESS TO LIBRARY – The Boyd Intermediate/Middle School library is open to the public between 5 and 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday now through May 25 to trade books, access the internet and email, and for students to receive help with homework.


KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP – Bridgeport ISD is holding its kindergarten roundup this week. Registration will take place at Bridgeport Elementary through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents must bring the child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization records and proof of residence. Parents must also have a photo ID.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH – Charlie Doubrava and Lauren Denny of Decatur High School pose as April students of the month with Karli Stevensons of DATCU; Christine Carreno, a DHS Science teacher; Terry Everett and Samantha Underwood, both of DATCU.

Cheyanne Mantooth is the Victory Christian Academy’s student of the month for April. She is standing with Christin George, a teacher and Steve Sims from First Financial Bank.


EDUCATION GALA – The Decatur Education Foundation Gala is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.


ONLINE ENROLLMENT – Online enrollment for all students – both returning and new to Northwest ISD – for the 2018-19 school year is open at nisdtx.org/enrollment.

STEM CAMP – Northwest ISD offers all students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity through fun, hands-on experiences at the STEM based TechnoCamp 2018. Among the many camps for kindergarten through eighth grade are drone, MakerSpace, robotics, Raspberry Pi, and MakeyMakey. Information and registration can be found at technocamp.nisdtx.org.

COLLEGE CON – Northwest ISD will host College Con on Saturday, providing middle school students and their families with information to prepare for high school, college and beyond. The free event will last from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northwest High School and feature 12 workshop sessions. Examples of sessions include how to prepare for high school success, college life, college preparation and goal setting, choosing a college, the power of ePortfolios and more. The event is part of Northwest ISD’s T2M4 program, providing students with the guidance and support they need for technical, 2-year college, military or 4-year college plans.


HOMEWORK HELP – Paradise Intermediate is offering tutoring for all grade levels 7:30 to 8 a.m. every morning.
