January Honors

Students Recognized

ALVORD

BLOOD DRIVE – The Junior Leaders Blood Drive is Feb. 16 at Alvord Elementary. Carter BloodCare will be on site 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

BOYD

BEYOND BOYD EXPO – The Beyond Boyd Expo is 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 in the high school cafeteria. Local colleges and businesses will be on hand to provide information to students in grades 8 through 12 along with Boyd staff members to share information on course offerings.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS – Classes will be out Feb. 16 for a bad weather day. Students will also be off Feb. 19 for a staff development day.

READ TO SUCCEED – Boyd Elementary students in grades kindergarten through third must read and log a total of six hours by Feb. 18 to get a free Six Flags ticket.

BRIDGEPORT

THE HUB – Bridgeport Middle School is offering an after-school program, The Hub, every Tuesday and Thursday 3:45 to 5 p.m. Students will receive tutoring and mentoring, eat snacks and play games. Bus rides are offered with permission forms, which should be given to Janelle Gardner at the middle school. The Hub will be at First United Methodist Church, 608 17th Street. RECYCLING CONTEST – Team Green is having a recycling contest at Bridgeport Middle School. The grade level that brings the most aluminum cans will earn a week of Roundup on the turf. The proceeds from selling the cans for recycling will be used to help purchase recycling bins for BMS. The contest ends the week prior to spring break.

DECATUR

SCHOOL HOLIDAY – Classes will be out Feb. 19 for a staff development day.

FAIRY TALE BALL – The Carson Elementary First-Grade Fairy Tale Ball is 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Feb. 14.

FCA CAMP – FCA Weekend of Champions camp for McCarroll Middle School students is March 2-4 at Lakeview Camp in Waxahachie. Cost is $120 and includes a T-shirt, Bible, lanyard, housing five meals and snacks. Scholarships are available. Sign up at dfwfca.org. Deadine is 5 p.m. Feb. 16. Contact Coach Daugherty or Coach Franke with questions.

PARADISE

COLLECTING ITEMS FOR MILITARY – The Paradise Junior High cheerleaders are collecting donations of money or care package items for former Panthers on active duty. Money or items may be dropped off at any campus office or at the donation cans at Finish Line and Hometown Tees. For a list of suggested items, see pisd.net.

HOMEWORK HELP – Paradise Intermediate is offering tutoring for all grade levels 7:30 to 8 a.m. every morning.

BOOK FAIR – Paradise Elementary School is having a Scholastic Book Fair beginning Feb. 9.
