ALVORD

TRANSFER APPLICATIONS – Alvord ISD is accepting new transfer applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Applications can be printed at alvordisd.net or picked up at the Alvord ISD Administration Office, 100 Mosley Lane. All applications and supporting documentation must be returned by June 18, 2018. Transfer student applications will be considered at the regular school board meeting in July.

GRADUATION – The Alvord ISD School Board recently approved a policy change that will allow all current or former board members to present a diploma to a graduate who is a family member. Any former board members who want to present a diploma to a family member at graduation will need to contact Julie Dickerson at the high school as soon as possible.

POWDER PUFF – The Alvord varsity cheerleaders will hold their first powderpuff and flag football tournament at 5:30 p.m. May 17. There will be divisions for first through fifth, sixth through eighth, ninth through 12th and parents and alumni. No coed teams are permitted. The registration fee for teams of seven to 10 players is $25. Forms are available at any campus office in the district.

ALVORD’S GOT TALENT – Alvord Elementary PTO will present Alvord’s Got Talent and spaghetti dinner Saturday at Alvord High School. Dinner starts at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 6. Advanced tickets are available at the Alvord Elementary office and are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

BOYD

BIG EVENT – Boyd ISD’s first Big Event, a one-day service project, is May 5. To show their appreciation to the community, Boyd students will complete service projects such as yard work, fence repairs, window washing and painting for citizens.

PUBLIC ACCESS TO LIBRARY – The Boyd Intermediate/Middle School library is open to the public between 5 and 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday now through May 25 to trade books, access the internet and email, and for students to receive help with homework.

COLOR RUN – The Boyd Education Foundation will hold a Color Run 5K at 8 a.m. Saturday at Boyd High School. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for students.

BRIDGEPORT

EDUCATION SHOWCASE – The Bridgeport ISD Education Showcase is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bridgeport High School. The event provides community members, parents, students and staff an opportunity to share and celebrate accomplishments of students and teachers. It will be held with the district art show.

FUNDRAISING CONCERT – The Auto Tech Fundraiser Concert featuring the George Brothers is 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Middle School Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and children are free. All proceeds benefit the Roy Sweatman Memorial Scholarship fund.

CHICO

DUAL CREDIT MEETING – An information meeting for students interested in dual-credit courses at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chico High School.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE – the Chico Middle School FCA is holding a food drive through May 4 to benefit the food pantry at Chico Elementary School.

DECATUR

FAMILY PICNIC – Parents are invited to picnic with their students Friday and May 4 during lunch periods between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Rann Elementary.

SCIENCE DAY – All three Decatur ISD elementary schools will participate in Science Day May 4 at Young Elementary School.

PLANT A SEED OF KINDNESS – Rann Elementary students will participate in the “Plant a Seed of Kindness” event throughout the day May 7. Students will go throughout town during their rotations performing a variety of community service projects.

PROM – The Decatur Junior/Senior Prom is Saturday.

NORTHWEST

ONLINE ENROLLMENT – Online enrollment for all students – both returning and new to Northwest ISD – for the 2018-19 school year is open at nisdtx.org/enrollment.

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP – Northwest ISD elementary schools will each host a kindergarten roundup event April 30 to May 4, allowing incoming kindergartners and their families to learn about their new schools. Kindergarten classes are offered at every Northwest ISD elementary school. The Texas Education Agency allows children who are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year to attend kindergarten.

STEM CAMP – Northwest ISD offers to all students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity through fun, hands-on experiences at the STEM- based TechnoCamp 2018. Among the many camps for kindergarten through eighth grade are drone, MakerSpace, robotics, Raspberry Pi, and MakeyMakey. Information and registration can be found at technocamp.nisdtx.org.

PARADISE

KINDER REGISTRATION – Paradise Elementary kindergarten registration is Wednesday by appointment only. Call 940-969-5046.

HOMEWORK HELP – Paradise Intermediate is offering tutoring for all grade levels 7:30 to 8 a.m. every morning.

SLIDELL

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP – Slidell Elementary will hold registration for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2018-19 school year from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday. Parents can also register their child from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
