Steve Downs

Steve Downs, 79, of Parker, Colo., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, in Lone Tree, Colo.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with Bill Fitch officiating.

Visitation is 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Jay Dillon, Jim Dillon, Chris Downs, Tony Downs, Dave Echternach and Jon Ranney.

Steve was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Fort Worth to Robert and Hazel (McCracken) Downs. He married Peggy Marcus Dec. 30, 1961, in Hobbs, N.M.

Steve was in the United States Army for more than 24 years. During that time, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired as a software engineer and worked at Northrop Grumman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl C. McCracken and Hazel McCracken.

Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Downs of Parker; daughter Deborah Ranney of Aurora, Colo.; son Tony Downs and wife, Alison, of Plano; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
