Homer Ray Morgan

Homer Ray Morgan, 86, of Mesquite, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, in Mesquite.

Funeral was Aug. 20 at Hawkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Raney officiating. Burial followed at Springtown Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rob Waldron, Jason Sullivan, Darrin Andrews, Brandon Fite, Joe Davis and Travis Stanley.

Morgan was born June 14, 1932, in Fort Worth to William and Annie (Sessom) Morgan. He married Jacqueline “Jackie” Cooke June 14, 2001, in Burleson.

Morgan graduated from Boyd High School, attended Arlington State College, served in the United States Navy, was a mason, shriner, elk, moose and Lt. Gov. Optimist International in Georgia. He was self-employed most of his adult life. He also served on Georgia Gov. Zell Miller’s staff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son Roger Dale Morgan.

He is survived by his daughter, Rae Jean Denny of Plano; son Gary Don Morgan of Douglasville, Ga.; daughter Jodie McMillan of Weatherford; stepson Stuart Carbone of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother James B. Morgan and wife, Doris, of Weatherford.
