Tis the season for giving!

Local realtors are having a toy drive, and they’ve turned it into a contest. The Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors is currently collecting toys for Decatur Police Department’s Santa Cops program. Participating realtors, mortgage companies and title companies are dropoff locations, and they’re having a contest among themselves to see who can collect the most. There’s even a very special trophy to be awarded to the winner.

To help a special cause, as well as your favorite peeps in the real estate biz, donate toys by Dec. 14.

BANKING AWARDS

First State Bank was recently honored by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) with two Best of Community Banking (BOCB) awards. It received a gold award in the marketing category and a bronze award in the financial literacy category.

This is the 27th year that IBAT has celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of Texas community banks with the BOCB awards. The competition is designed to honor banks for their commitment to helping their customers, neighbors and community. BOCB awards recognize community banks throughout the state for their innovation, creativity and success in fulfilling a specific community need. Each submission received a gold, silver or bronze award in one of five categories: bank culture, community service, financial literacy, marketing and architectural design.

First State Bank has received awards in previous and back-to-back years for their marketing efforts and customer awareness messaging. 2018 marks the first year the bank has received an award for their financial literacy outreach.

“Our mission is to treat our community as our home, customers as our neighbors, and employees as our family, and by receiving these awards, it’s a true testament of our relentless effort to uphold our mission,” said Ryan Morris, chief executive officer. “In particular, our commitment to financial education and outreach to the communities we’re privileged to call home, from the elementary-age students to senior adults, demonstrates the dedication of our bank employees who prepare and present such an important and relevant topic.”

All BOCB gold, silver and bronze winners were on display during IBAT’s 44th annual convention in San Antonio, Sept. 22-25.

Chartered in 1905, First State Bank is the oldest state bank in Texas. It has more than $1 billion in assets and 12 locations in Cooke, Denton, Montague and Wise counties.
