Fairfield Inn and Suites in Decatur is finally opening.

The company sent a press release Thursday saying it will welcome guests May 2. Many “opening dates” have come and gone, but I’m hopeful this is the one.

The hotel sits next to the Decatur Conference Center on U.S. 380. It boasts 107 rooms, and the design and decor is “inspired by nature.” Amenities include complimentary hot breakfast, an outdoor swimming pool, exercise room, valet laundry service, complimentary wifi and fax and copy services. There is also a 24/7 Corner Market in the lobby and meeting space for up to 50 people.

The hotel operates as a Marriott franchise. It’s owned by Gatehouse Capital and managed by Texas Western Hospitality of Dallas.

The Decatur Tractor Supply store is seeking growers, crafters and artisans to participate in Market Day May 12.

Vendors with expertise in homemade crafts, candles, soaps, honey, eggs, produce, baked goods, gardening, furniture and more, are encouraged to sign up. To register, go to or the Decatur store. Nonprofit organizations and food trucks are also invited to participate. Deadline is May 9.

“Market Day is a way for us to bring neighbors together to spotlight the diverse talent that makes the Decatur community so unique,” said Mary Lawley, vice president of store administration at Tractor Supply Co. “From the hobbyist to the professional, not only do we want to celebrate locally produced goods, but also the people who make them.”

Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance and Grow North Texas is having a meeting for local food producers 3 to 8 p.m. May 3 at Black Creek Farm, 2324 Old Decatur Road, outside Decatur. Participants may register for all or part of the day’s events, which include a workshop on legal and business issues for farmers, a listening session for producers and grassroots advocacy training. All sessions are free.

A-Gas in Rhome, a supplier and life cycle manager of specialty chemicals such as refrigerants, hydrocarbon blowing agents and clean agent fire protection, is marking its 25th anniversary. The public is invited to celebrate 2 to 5 p.m. May 4 at the storefront, 11050 South U.S. 287.

Eighter Liquor in Decatur celebrated one year in business Friday night with a customer appreciation party. Barbecue sliders and dessert were served, along with samples of new products coming out for summer.

It’s official: we are in a Chick-fil-A desert.

What will happen if our waffle fry needs are not met? How will our children be affected long-term? Only time will tell.

Days without Chick-Fil-A in Wise County (starting in 2018): 118.
