LOWER ELECTRICITY RATES – Bridgeport City Council approved an ordinance with the city’s new electricity rates Monday, and consumers should see a slight decrease on their monthly bill. The new rate, beginning Oct. 1, is 11.87 cents per kilowatt hour. All base rates will remain the same.

RAIN AND COOLER TEMPS – Rainfall totals from yesterday and overnight included 1.55 inches in Alvord, 1.3 in Bridgeport, 0.42 in Decatur and 0.12 in Rhome. High temperatures for the rest of the week are expected to be in the 70s, with a high temperature of 76 forecast for today. The forecast also includes a 40 percent chance of rain today and tonight.

TUESDAY VOLLEYBALL RESULTS – Billie Roberts finished with 16 kills and served seven aces in Poolville’s 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 15-10 victory over Chico Tuesday. Jessica Byers recorded 10 kills and Maddie Hager served seven aces for Chico. Led by five blocks from Satasha Kostelecky and four from Madison Lowery, Decatur tallied 15.5 blocks as a team in the three-game sweep of Sanger. Decatur won 25-16, 25-15, 27-25 in moving to 2-0 in District 9-4A. Kostelecky buried seven kills. The Boyd Lady Yellowjackets rolled to their 29th straight district win Tuesday, beating Jacksboro in three games. Boyd (25-6) hit .289 in winning 25-11, 25-9, 25-12. Jordyn Todd buried 10 kills. The Paradise Lady Panthers fell to Henrietta in three games Tuesday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-11. The Alvord Lady Bulldogs slipped to 3-3 in District 9-2A with a four-game loss to Graford 14-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19. Christina Thomas landed 12 kills. Boswell beat Northwest in three games. Krum tripped up Bridgeport.

TASTE BRIDGEPORT – Taste Bridgeport is 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Downtown merchants along Halsell Street have partnered with local eateries and wineries, a distillery and a brewery so attendees can eat and drink while they browse. Tickets are available for purchase at bridgeportchamber.org – $30 for individuals, $25 per person for couples and $25 for teachers. Groups of 10 or more can receive a discount rate by calling the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce at 940-683-2076. Tickets include food tasting, a wine glass, wine pairings and entry to the Le Freak concert after-party. Ticket holders can check in any time between 4 and 8 p.m., and tastings end at 9 p.m.

FALL FEST – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1305 Deer Park Road, in Decatur is having a Fall Fest noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be a Christian band, a bounce house, buggy and train rides, bingo, raffles, food and drinks. A bilingual mass will be at 10:45 a.m.

BOOK FESTIVAL – Decatur Public Library’s The Same Page Book Festival is 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature local authors, opening and closing keynote speakers, sessions for aspiring writers and readers, and an author fair where readers can chat with authors and purchase books. Opening keynote speaker is Charlotte Canion, author of “You Have to Laugh to Keep from Crying: How to Parent Your Parents,” and the closing speaker is Decatur’s Julia Heaberlin, author of many best-selling thrillers.

FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER – The Decatur Education Foundation is having a fundraiser – Dinner with Dale Hansen – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Decatur Conference Center. Hansen is a sports broadcaster on WFAA. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table with eight seats. VIP tables are $600 and include a meet and greet with Hansen. Tickets may be purchased at the DISD Administration Building or DATCU. There will be a cash bar and live auction.

HISTORICAL MEETINGS – The Wise County Historical Commission and the Wise County Historical Society, Inc. will hold meetings Thursday at the Wise County Heritage Museum, 1602 S. Trinity St. in Decatur. The Society will meet at noon and the Commission meeting will open at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served, so RSVP to the museum at 940-627-5586 by 3 p.m. today if you plan to eat lunch. The groups will discuss the work being done on the “Old Administration Building.” Speaker Tommy Edwards of Edwards Surveying will discuss historical information he has collected during his years of service to Wise County.

FUNERALS – Service for Carolyn Campbell, 79, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant View Baptist Church with burial at Thomas Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Marie Byers, 68, of Chico is 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Bridgeport with burial at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Richard Long, 62, of Paradise is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Jimmy Dan Foreman, 60, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for Veada Loudada Bullard, 85, of Rhome is 11 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
