AIR QUALITY ALERT – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Wise County, today. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the area. The forecast calls for a warm and sunny day with a high near 90.

TUESDAY VOLLEYBALL RESULTS – The Chico Lady Dragons moved to 2-0 in District 9-2A with a dominating effort against Newcastle Tuesday. Chico won 25-16, 25-12, 25-21. Jessica Byers turned in another stellar effort with 18 kills and four blocks. She also served four aces. The Boyd Lady Yellowjackets won their 25th straight district match Tuesday with a sweep of Bowie. Boyd won 25-23, 25-14, 25-13. Jordyn Todd finished off the match with her 13th kill, hitting .500. Led by Autumn Finney, the Decatur Lady Eagles hit .303 to sweep Wichita Falls Tuesday. Finney put down 14 kills in 32 attacks, hitting .312. Finney also made 14 digs. Kori James buried 11 kills to lead the Northwest Lady Texans to a sweep of Brewer Tuesday night. James hit .286 and made 10 digs in the Lady Texans’ 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 victory. The Alvord Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-1 in District 9-2A with a three-game loss to Poolville Tuesday, 25-17, 25-20, 27-25. Christina Thomas finished with 10 kills and an ace for the Lady Bulldogs. The Paradise Lady Panthers dropped to 0-2 in District 8-3A, falling to Holliday in four games (25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-16). Harley Mayfield put down 11 kills and Ashley Kosman eight.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE – Decatur Public Library Book Sale is Thursday through Saturday. Friends of the Library Preview is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday and open to the public 1 p.m. to close Thursday. The sale will continue Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to closing both days. A 1-year membership in the Friends of the Library is $10. The sale will include fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, DVDs and books on CD.

CONSTITUTION READING – The John B. Denton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host the 7th Annual Reading of the American Constitution 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park in Decatur. GLOW BALL – Decatur Police Department’s third annual Glow Ball Tournament, benefiting its Back the Blue Scholarship fund, is Saturday, Sept. 30, at Bridgeport Country Club. Nine holes will be played in daylight and nine holes in the dark with a 4 p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team, which includes glow balls, a meal between rounds and prizes. CORRECTION – Yesterday it was reported in Update that the 3 percent pay raise for sheriff’s office employees “above entry level and below chief deputy” would be covered by commissary funds. That is incorrect. The raise will be covered by the inmate telephone fund and some money from the sheriff’s office impound, according to Sheriff Lane Akin. FUNERAL for Larry Dean Smith, 65, of Paradise is 10 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Roberts Branch Cemetery in Jacksboro. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Rebecca Lou Mosley, 58, of Decatur is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Mary Elaine Davis, 93, of Enid, Okla., is 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with 2:30 p.m. burial at DFW National Cemetery. No set visitation on Monday at Hawkins-Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Paula Jean Kersten, 82, of Runaway Bay is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
