NATIONAL MEETING COMES TO WISE – Close to 70 county officials from across the nation will visit Wise County this week for the 2017 Rural Action Caucus (RAC) fall symposium. RAC, a subgroup of the National Association of Counties (NACo), is chaired by County Judge J.D. Clark, and he’s excited the group is meeting in his home county. The symposium will kick off with a welcome reception on the square in Decatur Thursday night and conference meetings will start Friday at the Women’s Building on the Wise County Fairgrounds. The group is also visiting NRS in Decatur, Hanson Aggregates in Chico and the Center for Animal Research and Education in Bridgeport. VOLLEYBALL SCORES – Holliday surged to a four-set win over the Lady Yellowjackets, ending Boyd’s 30-match win streak. The Lady Yellowjackets entered the match ranked third, but fell 17-25, 29-27, 25-19, 25-22. Abbey Bloomer made 33 digs as Alvord beat Ranger in four sets. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-15, 21-25, 25-8, 25-21. Kinley Walker made 28 digs. Audrey Beasley had 31. Walker buried five kills. Christina Thomas had 14. Kendall Connolly doled out 22 assists. Chisholm Trail downed Northwest in four games, winning 25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23. Oakley O’Dell and Kori James each buried 17 kills. Bailey Tompkins had 16. Analise Lucio had 53 assists. Jewell Pavlakovic had 21 digs. James had 19 and Lucio 18. Chico battered Perrin over three sets, winning 25-11, 25-10, 25-13. The Paradise Lady Panthers fell to Nocona over five sets Tuesday, losing 25-14, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13.

RAINFALL REPORT – Rainfall totals from yesterday included 1.1 inches in Greenwood, 0.5 in Alvord, 0.15 in Rhome and 0.05 in Decatur. Today’s forecast includes a 30 percent chance of rain with a high of 82.

RAISING AWARENESS – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to raise awareness, Wise Hope encourages people to paint the nail on their left ring finger purple. Post pictures on social media with the hashtags #WiseHope and #PutTheNailInit.

YARD SALE – Pleasant Grove Baptist No. 2 is having a yard sale 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday to benefit its children’s outdoor playground fund. PARK CLASSIC – The 26th Annual Park Classic Golf Tournament is Friday at Decatur Golf and Country Club. Registration is 9 a.m. with tee time at 10. BLESSING OF ANIMALS – The Episcopal Church of Wise County and the First United Methodist Church of Decatur, invite the community to The Blessing of the Animals 10 a.m. Saturday on the Episcopal Church grounds, 905 S. Church Street, in Decatur. Have pets on a leash or in a carrier. Items are also being collected to give the Wise County Animal Shelter, including bleach, puppy and kitten food, Dawn and cat litter.

BINGO NIGHT – The Paradise Emeralds will have its second annual Bingo Night 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Community Center. A three-card sheet is $1. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Proceeds will be used for new uniforms and team competitions.

COMMUNITY MEETING ON ANNEXATION – A community meeting regarding Bridgeport’s annexation plan is 6:30 p.m. today at Laquinta in Bridgeport. The meeting is open to landowners in the current annexation plan, landowners outside the current annexation plan and people interested with the group’s efforts. FUNERALS – Mass of Christian burial for Candelario Pacheco, 88, of Decatur is 11 a.m. today at Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Walter Francis Pac, 92, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Decatur. Family visitation is 30 minutes before service on Saturday at the funeral home.
