ELECTION RESULTS – Wise County voters made their choices on seven state constitutional amendment propositions, Paradise city and school board races and a water district proposition in Decatur yesterday. In the Paradise School Board election, voters elected Heath Smith to Place 3, Susie Burt to Place 4, Scott Cox to Place 5 and Renea Remmele to Place 7. In Paradise City Council races, Robert Owensby won by a 27-19 vote over Chris Harris for Place 4 while John Ward edged Michael Robertson 26-21 for Place 5. Decatur’s Wise County Water Supply District proposition passed 77-66. Statewide, Texas voters approved all seven constitutional amendment propositions. Wise County voters favored Propositions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 but not Propositions 5 and 7. All results are unofficial until canvassing.

BOYD EARNS REGIONAL SPOT – Behind the serving of Kamryn Frenzel and a frenzied defense, the Lady Yellowjackets staved off set point in the second game. Boyd won the set 26-24 to get back in the match. Three games later, Boyd ended Peaster’s tenure as region champion with a dramatic victory in the 3A Region I quarterfinal at Jacksboro High School (22-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12). Jordyn Todd had 19 kills and 26 digs. Argyle ended Decatur’s season in a 4A Region II quarterfinal in four games, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16.

COLD AND RAINY – Rain was falling in Wise County as of 8 a.m. with temperatures in the mid-40s. Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-40s throughout the day and the rain should move out of the area by mid-afternoon. An overnight low of 38 is expected.

THANKSGIVING DINNER – The First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is 5-7:30 tonight at Bridgeport High School, 1 Maroon Dr. Tickets are available at the church office, 608 17th St. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10.

VETERANS DAY PROGRAM – The Wise County Veterans Group will present its annual Veterans Day program 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park in Decatur. Speaker is U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger, and there will be a special tribute to World War II veterans.

BENEFIT GOLF TOURNAMENT – A benefit golf tournament Swinging for Stacey benefiting Stacey Webb will take place Saturday at The Golf Club at The Resort in Fort Worth. Registration is 11 a.m. with tee time at noon. A benefit concert and dinner will take place after the tournament with cocktails at 5 p.m. and the buffet open at 6 p.m. The event will also feature a concert by Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band and an auction. MASONIC LODGE BREAKFAST – Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 779 will host its quarterly breakfast 7-10 a.m. Saturday. Breakfast is free but donations are appreciated. The lodge will be serving biscuits and sausage gravy, milk, coffee and orange juice.

SANTA COPS – The Decatur Police Department is accepting applications for the Santa Cops program now through Tuesday, Nov. 28. Applications can be picked up at the police department or found online at decaturtx.org. Donations of new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations can be dropped off at the police department through Friday, Dec. 15. Call Ashly DoByns, 940-393-0303.

SMOKED MEAT FUNDRAISER – Grace Baptist Church of Decatur will be smoking hams and turkeys for their annual Benevolence Fundraiser on Friday. For a smoked turkey or ham for a donation call 940-627-7558. Hams and turkeys are to be picked up on the church parking lot from 6-10 p.m. Friday.

COWBOY EVENT – Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located on Farm Road 730 south of Decatur, will hold Arena Cowboy Practice Race and Jackpot at 7 p.m. Friday at the PGCC Arena. Call Buck Cope at 940-399-3456.

SPECIAL SECTIONS – The midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands today features two special sections, one honoring Wise County veterans and the other featuring the annual report of the Wise Soil and Water Conservation District.

FUNERALS – Memorial graveside service for Susan Miank, 68, of Justin is 2 p.m. Saturday at New Fairview Cemetery in New Fairview. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Joseph Jordan, 72, of Rhome is 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church in Boyd. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MASS of Christian burial for Karl “K.C.” Schoenthal, 54, of Paradise is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov, 14, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Richland Hills with burial at DFW National Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hawkins-Decatur.

SERVICE for Billy Williams, 22, of Decatur is pending at Hawkins-Decatur.

SERVICE for Belinda Hooper, 60, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Eula Mae Cook, 93, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Brian Eustace, 33, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
