MARLETT APPOINTED TO COLLEGE BOARD – Dr. Robert Marlett of Lake Bridgeport was appointed to the Wise County seat on the Weatherford College Board by county commissioners at their regular meeting Monday. Marlett will serve a two-year term starting Dec. 1. In this position, he is allowed to vote on any issues related to the Wise County campus. He was recommended to commissioners by a selection committee that included County Judge J.D. Clark, Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns, Auditor Ann McCuiston and commissioners’ attorney Thomas Aaberg. Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands today.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS – Macee Valtr put down 14 kills and Jordyn Todd 12 as Boyd swept Tolar 25-12, 25-9, 25-19 in the 3A Region II bi-district match at Aledo High School. Boyd will move on to play Clyde in the area round at 7 p.m. Thursday in Graham. Collinsville scored three unanswered points to win the fifth set and the match, knocking the Lady Dragons out of the playoffs in the 2A Region II bi-district round 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING – The Bridgeport Garden Club, which serves all of Wise County, meets 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport Community Center. The program will be “Pet Friendly Plants” presented by Veterinarian Technician Emma Bowman. Lunch will be served and all are welcome. THANKSGIVING DINNER – Tickets are now on sale for the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Bridgeport High School, 1 Maroon Dr. Tickets are available at the church office, 608 17th St. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10.

SMOKED MEAT FUNDRAISER – Grace Baptist Church of Decatur will be smoking hams and turkeys for their annual Benevolence Fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 10. For a smoked turkey or ham for a donation call 940-627-7558. Hams and turkeys are to be picked up on the church parking lot from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 10.

VOTE EARLY – Early voting for the Nov. 7 election continues today with polls open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at four early voting locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. Yesterday was the busiest day of early voting so far with 90 votes cast.

SERVICES for Laverna Standefur, 76, of Boyd and Joseph Jordan, 72, of Rhome are pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Ruby Solomon, 88, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Friday at Aurora Baptist Church with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Windell Lamance, 91, of Boyd is 10 a.m. Thursday at Garvin United Methodist Church with burial at Garvin cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

SERVICE for Terry Costa, 66, of Justin will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Elmer White, 85, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Paradise Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Tayslea Alyvia Knabe, the infant daughter of Richard Knabe and Rachael West of Decatur, is 2 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Jones Family Funeral Home-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Norma Jean Allison, 76, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Church in Decatur.
