FATAL WRECK – One man was killed when his motorcycle was struck head-on by an SUV on Farm Road 730 near County Road 4765 south of Boyd Tuesday afternoon. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Patrick Garcia said Mearl Miner, 51, of Fort Worth was killed when his motorcycle was struck head-on by a southbound SUV driven by Rosemary Switzer, 69, of Rhome. Miner had been northbound on the road, and Garcia said at the scene it wasn’t clear what prompted Switzer to veer into oncoming traffic. Switzer was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle. The road was closed for several hours while investigators were on scene.

STORM REPORT – Storms swept through Wise County early this morning, and high winds caused some issues with power lines in the county. As of 7:40 a.m., around 650 Oncor customers, mainly in the south Bridgeport and Paradise areas, remained without power while scattered outages remained in other parts of Wise County, according to Area Manager Sabrina Easley. Rainfall amounts included 0.7 of an inch in Rhome, 0.5 in Greenwood and Cottondale, 0.41 in Decatur, 0.38 in Alvord and 0.37 in Bridgeport. It’s expected to be warm and breezy today with storm chances returning tomorrow.

IRION EARNS SILVER – Bridgeport senior Brooke Irion shot a 1-under 71 in the second round of the 4A state golf tournament to finish second. Irion’s 147 over the two rounds was one shot back of Abilene Wylie’s Maddi Olson. As a team, Bridgeport cut off 15 strokes in the second round to finish ninth with a 777. Katie Hudson tied for 19th firing a 171 (82, 89). Maycie Cortez shot 227 (118, 109). Ashlie Lennard and Taite Read carded matching 232s with rounds of 120 and 112.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE – Decatur Public Library is having a book sale this week. The Friends of the Library Preview is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday. The book sale will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to close on Thursday and from 10 a.m. to close on Friday and Saturday.

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP – The Stroke Overcomers Support Group will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Health System building, 2000 S. FM 51, Decatur. This group is designed to assist stroke survivors and their families with hope and information. Casey Rauschuber will speak to the group about stroke management and the services that are available to assist stroke overcomers and their families. WASHER TOURNAMENT – Decatur FFA is having a washer tournament and fish fry Saturday, May 20, at Decatur High School’s ag building. The tournament starts at 3 p.m., and dinner will be served starting at 6. Entry fee is $60 per team and includes two meal tickets. A single meal ticket is $10. All proceeds will go toward Decatur FFA to send members to judging contests and state convention.

HISTORIC WALKING TOUR – Bridgeport Main Street presents a Historic Walking Tour 5 p.m. today. The tour will feature three locations: the Bridgeport Historical Museum, Historic Main Street Buildings and Wise County Veterans Museum. The event is free, and light refreshments will be provided.
