YOUTH FAIR AUCTION TOPPED $265,000 – Bidders spent $265,750 Saturday at the 2017 Youth Fair auction at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Aliyah Nichols of Alvord 4-H led off the sale with her grand champion steer, which was purchased by the Champions and Blue Ribbon Club for $12,000. Reserve champion Carson Read of Decatur 4-H sold her steer for $7,000, also to the Champions and Blue Ribbon Club. The sale total was up $12,300 from 2016. BAND BOOSTERS MEETING – Bridgeport High School Band Boosters will meet at 6 p.m. today in the band hall behind the high school.

BAKE SALE – The Boyd Rodeo team will hold a bake sale 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at First Financial Bank in Boyd.

MASONIC LODGE BREAKFAST – Greenwood Masonic Lodge is holding its quarterly breakfast 7-9 a.m. Saturday. Biscuits, gravy, sausage and bacon will be provided at no cost. Donations will be accepted.

PRESCRIBED BURNING – The U.S. Forest Service will conduct 1,300 acres of prescribed burning to clear vegetation in Unit 31 of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands today. The area is east of Alvord. For more information, call the grasslands office at (940)-627-5475.

GIFTED AND TALENTED – Nominations for the Paradise Gifted and Talented program will be accepted until Friday, March 24. Students from kindergarten to 11th grade will be accepted. Nomination forms may be found at pisd.net.

GOLF TOURNEY – The Decatur High School Golf Booster Club Tournament is Saturday, April 8, at Bridgeport Country Club. Cost is $300 for a three-person team, which includes a meal. Registration is 8:30 a.m., and tee time is 10. All proceeds benefit DHS boys and girls golf teams. To register a team or sponsor the tournament, email dhsgolf2014@gmail.com or call 940-393-9581.

GLITZY GIRLS – The fourth annual Glitzy Girl event, a vintage travel trailer show and shopping extravaganza, is scheduled for Saturday, April 8. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION – Wise Health System’s Bridgeport Auxiliary will award 10, $1,000 scholarships to continuing education students, high school students, employees and children of employees of Wise Health System and individuals with a Wise County address, who are pursuing a medical field of study.
