TEEN HELPS RESCUE WRECK VICTIMS – After witnessing a wreck at the intersection of U.S. 380 and Farm Road 1655 Tuesday morning, Bridgeport High School senior Max Allen along with his girlfriend and mother stopped to help. Since the car was on its top, Allen punched out the front windshield with his fists and helped three members of the Gomez family – Nancy, Alejandra and Nancy’s 5-year-old daughter – out of the wrecked vehicle. The Gomez family was transported to Denton City Medical by ground ambulance. Public Safety Cpl. Lantz Elliott said the accident was caused when a vehicle traveling south on FM 1655, driven by Katherine Robinson, failed to yield right of way to traffic westbound on U.S. 380 and was struck by a car carrying the Gomez family. SUNSET BAY FIRE – Fire destroyed a three-story log cabin near the Sunset Bay gated community northwest of Lake Bridgeport Christmas night. Sand Flat, Chico, Crafton and Lake Bridgeport firefighters battled the blaze that consumed a truck and ignited a small brush fire. Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m., finding the home fully involved. “Our brush truck was the first on the scene, and the roof and walls had collapsed. It’d evidently been burning for some time,” said Sand Flat Fire Chief Andy Sabo. “A small grass fire had started, and they attacked it first.”
