UNITED WAY KICKOFF – The United Way of Wise County’s 2018 Campaign Kickoff Luncheon is today at the Decatur Conference Center. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. RSVP to the Decatur Conference Center at 940-393-0280 or email lsherwood@decaturtx.org.

DONATIONS FOR FLOOD VICTIMS – Wise Electric has a donation trailer in the parking lot at 1900 N. Trinity in Decatur that is accepting items for the flood victims in and around the Houston area. All donations will be delivered Friday morning.

KNITTING CIRCLE – The Knit Wits and Crochet Nuts group meets 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Public Library. Call 940-433-3847.

FILL THE BUS – Paradise FFA, Paradise Intermediate Student Council and Paradise Elementary are sponsoring Fill the Bus to help people in the Gulf Coast area who have sustained losses from the effects of Hurricane Harvey. The following items can be brought to the Paradise Ag Shop during school hours through Friday: bottled water, bottled electrolytes, canned foods, diapers, clothing, toiletries, school supplies, non-perishable foods and pet food. Decatur FFA and Boyd FFA are also helping, and items may also be dropped off at the Decatur Ag Shop.

FUNDRAISER – The Chico cheerleaders will hold a fundraiser today at Chili’s in Decatur. Mention Chico cheerleaders and the squad will receive 15 percent of your bill.

TAILGATE PARTY – Decatur Community Market will hold a football tailgate party at the market 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at 306 W. Main St. to celebrate the Decatur Eagles Football season. Regal Eagle and crew will make a guest appearance. The party will include a football toss contest and kids games, prizes for the most team spirit and free nachos and drinks. EAGLE DOLLS MINI CAMP – The DHS Eagle Dolls mini camp will be Tuesday, Sept. 12-Friday, Sept. 15. Children 4 years old-8th grade may participate. Forms can be found on the DHS website under Decatur Spirit, at any elementary campus, or you may contact Natalie Chance at natalie.chance@decaturisd.us.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Made 2 Thrive special needs baseball is looking for volunteers to help out at the baseball games. If interested, register at made2thrive.org. COUNTY HAY SHOW – The Wise County Hay Show is 10 a.m. today at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Speaker is Eddie Funderburg from the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. Participants will receive two continuing education units for their private pesticide applicator license. The program is free, and lunch is included. COUNTY PUBLIC HEARINGS – Wise County commissioners will have public hearings tonight on the proposed rates for the college branch campus maintenance tax and county tax for fiscal year 2018. They will hear comments on the branch campus maintenance tax, which supports the local Weatherford College campus, at 6:30 p.m. The proposed rate is 4.618 cents per $100 property valuation, the same as last year. Commissioners will hear comments on the county tax rate at 7 p.m. The proposed rate is 37.89 cents per $100 property valuation, also the same as last year. Both hearings will be held in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur. Commissioners will take action on the tax rates and county budget at their regular meeting 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11.

FUNERAL for Richard McClary, 68, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Saturday at Aurora Baptist Church with interment at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Chapel in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Mary Greer, 86, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL service for Payten Jo Tynsky, 16, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Kevin Gowdy, 45, of Rockwall is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins-Decatur. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Sue Ann Craddock, 72, of Deming, N.M., is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Paradise United Methodist Church. Family visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Burial will be in Andrews, at 2 p.m. Sept. 13.

SERVICE for Jimmy D. Sims, 76, of Colleyville is Saturday in Colleyville. Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville is handling arrangements.
