1 SUSPECT STILL AT LARGE AFTER PURSUIT – A Chico man has been taken into custody and another man remains at large after a vehicle chase through two counties Thursday afternoon. Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. 81/287 south of Alvord around noon, but the driver fled. A passenger jumped from the vehicle as it passed through Alvord. The chase continued north on 287 into Montague County, at times driving across the median into oncoming traffic, before turning west onto Bryan Road near Sunset. Akin said there the driver wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. After a search by deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Akin said officers apprehended Shawn Payne, 29. In the meantime, Akin said law enforcement officers converged in Alvord near the area on Speer Lane where the passenger jumped out of the car. Deputies had not caught the second suspect as of late yesterday.

ROWE RUNS AGAIN – District Clerk Brenda Rowe announced this week she will seek a third term in office. She will run as a Republican in the March 6 primary election. Rowe said she wants to continue the transition to paperless records. “We’ve scanned in and downsized 30 years of records,” she said. “We made it through all the civil records, and now there’s a mandate for criminal records that comes into effect January 2019. It’s a big change.” She said her re-election would also help ease the continuity of court proceedings as a new district judge takes the bench.
