VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Chico, Alvord win loop openers

The Chico Lady Dragons made quick work of Perrin in the District 9-2A opener Saturday.
Led by Jessica Byers’ 16 kills, the Lady Dragons swept Perrin, 25-8, 25-15, 25-17.
Kayla Clampitt finished with 11 kills and Michaela Martin 10.
Laynee North set the ball 77 times and put down four kills.
At the service line, Chico tallied 12 aces. Maddie Hager landed six.

Alvord def. Ranger
The Alvord Lady Bulldogs needed only three sets to score a victory over Ranger in the District 9-2A opener Saturday.
Alvord won 25-18, 25-12, 25-17.
Kinly Walker recorded eight kills and made 31 digs. Christina Thomas finished with seven kills and two blocks.
Kendall Connolly set the ball 68 times with 19 assists. She made 15 digs and served three aces.

Nocona def. Paradise
The Paradise Lady Panthers dropped their District 8-3A opener against Nocona Friday.
Nocona beat the Lady Panthers in four games (25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17).
Harley Mayfield led the Paradise attack with 12 kills and had four blocks. Gracie Barnett finished with 10 kills and 25 digs.
Saylea Mayfield handed out 23 assists and Kennedy Schneck 14.
Ashley Kosman made 17 digs.

Chisholm Trail def. Northwest
After battling back to win the fourth set to tie the match, the Northwest Lady Texans couldn’t capture the fifth-game tiebreaker Friday in the 6-5A opener.
Chisholm Trail won the fifth set 15-12 to take the match (26-24, 19-25, 25-15, 18-25, 15-12).
Northwest hit .125 with Kori James netting 24 kills. Rylie Anderson added 19.
Setter Analise Lucio doled out 50 assists and made 20 digs.
Jewell Pavlakovic had 21 digs.

Decatur def. Kennedale
Satasha Kostelecky and Trinity Vinzant led a deadly Decatur attack Friday in a four-game win over Kennedale.
Vinzant and Kostelecky landed 12 kills apiece. Vinzant hit .375 and Kostelecky .310. The Lady Eagles hit .210 as team in winning 25-23, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18.
Makenna Gantt handed out 21 assists.
Tayte Helton served five aces.
Defensively, Helton led the way with 20 digs. Kallie Boner and Cidnee Howard made 18 digs each.
Kostelecky blocked four shots.
